Packing fragile items for sea cargo (ceramics, glass, small appliances)

Sea stacks are unforgiving. Fragile doesn’t mean ‘wrap once in a thin shirt.’

  • Double wall protection: item wrap + box gap fill.
  • No empty corners. Empty corners collapse.
  • Glasses rim-to-rim is a bad idea — pad between.
  • Label fragile, but don’t rely on the word alone. Packing does the job; labels only warn.
  • Skip sending irreplaceable heirlooms unless you’re ready for risk talk.

Also check whether the item is restricted. Some ‘fragile’ goods are also regulated. Two problems in one box is a miserable combo.

If it would break in a Dubai taxi trunk, it needs more padding for an ocean container.
